Kidney Transplant

State-of-the-art Medical Facility Easing Transplants

Helping Fight Against Renal Failure

Not everyone is blessed with healthy kidneys. Approximately seventeen in every hundred people in India suffer some form of chronic kidney disease.

For many, a transplant is a viable option for a better life. Since the first deceased donor kidney transplant in 1988, our specialists have performed around 1500 live and cadaver transplantations at Ruby Hall Clinic.

We are passionate about transplants, and we believe in and practice excellence. Beyond top-notch medical care, we offer kidney transplant patients and their families the highest level of hospitality while charting the future of kidney transplantation.

If you or your loved ones suffer from one of the following conditions, a kidney transplant might be the option for you.

Renal failure and end-stage renal disease can be caused by:

  • Hypertension
  • Diabetes – Glomerulonephritis
  • acute kidney inflammation
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Kidney obstructions, like stones and tumours
  • Repeated urinary tract infections
  • Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) – a genetic disorder causing cysts to grow in the kidneys
  • Chronic kidney disease (CKD) – gradual kidney function loss

Our Patients Speak of their Experience

The solace of motherhood

I had been on dialysis for as long as I could remember and there was a point of time at 23, when kidney transplant was my only hope to live. I was determined to fight and it was in May 2011 that I finally received the chance to survive. I couldn’t have asked for a more caring and compassionate team. Since then, each day has been a blessing in disguise. Five years down the line, I’m enjoying the solace motherhood has brought to me with my one-year-old son.

Our kidney transplant team is lead by Dr. A G Huprikar, Dr. Abhay Sadre, Dr. S G Deshpande & Dr. Shirish Yande. It also includes nephrologists, surgeons, pathologists, nurse coordinators, social workers, financial coordinators and dieticians who manage each patient’s case from diagnosis to transplant and recovery.

Myth Vs Facts

Myth: Most kidney transplants fail

Fact: Kidney transplants more often than not are successful and can lead to many years without dialysis. They have proven to be very successful, so much so that global survival rates of kidney transplant recipients are reported to be more than 90% – 3 years following surgery with kidneys still functioning well. However, regular check-ups and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is essential in order to keep your kidneys functioning well.

Myth: Living kidney donors live a shorter life

Fact: The overall life-span is slightly better for living donors than it is in healthy people. This is because living donors must be very healthy in order to donate. In fact, living donors can continue to lead a perfectly normal life and even have children in the future. One kidney can take care of the job that both kidneys do.

Myth: Only younger people should be able to get a kidney transplant

Fact: All patients with end-stage kidney disease who are eligible for a transplant deserve one. Both younger and older people may receive a kidney transplant. In fact, as compared to dialysis, a transplant provides increased longevity and a better quality of life and helps patients to return to a more active lifestyle regardless of their age.
